I have used a Vexilar FL-8 for ever. Fished and caught fish, didn’t really think anything about spending the money on the new flashers on the market. Don’t really care to go to the new LCD screened fish finders, I am OK with the traditional flashers for ice fishing. But, last year before our annual Lake of the Woods family ice fishing trip, I was presented with the great deal on a Humminbird Ice-35 that I could not turn down. I was very impressed with the Zoom feature the most. I wouldn’t have believed the much better clarity of shows for Walleye/Sauger sitting on the bottom. My son was using it, out catching us 3 to 1, until he showed me the difference. That said I started looking for flasher upgrades since we booked the next Lake of the Woods trip. Having been out the the buying game for a while, and still looking for a decent deal, I figured out the flashers I want to target with the zoom feature. Humminbird Ice-35 or 45, and Vexilar FL-20 or 22HD.
My question is – the difference in Spec’s that I can see between the Vex and Hum is the target separation. Vex = .25″ and Hum = .5″, is there really a detail difference in those? Is it worth the $100+ more for the Vex, used market pricing? Don’t want to get into a pissing contest on which is better, to me they both do the job, just looking for the best deal.
Thanks for any suggestions.
