just enjoyed an awesome 4 days on the north fork of the Flambeau. Really pounded the smallies and got a bonus ‘ski.
fished from 9 Mile to Deadmans 3 of the 4 days and from the dam down to 9 Mile the first day. Senko’s and tubes all caught fish with the nod going to YUM wounded tubes on 1/8 oz jigs. Water level was perfect and running around 75 degrees. We were enjoying 60 to 70 fish per day between 3 canoes.
Great canoe trip and highly recommend it if you like skinny water fishing. Oh yeah, no dui’s when you canoe!

    SteveO,
Sounds like a great river. Numbers like had to be a blast. How big was the ski you hit?
I have never fished the Flambeau but am planning on hitting it next weekend. Thing is I want to target flatheads in there and was wondering if you had any advise on were to go. I will be in the Ladysmith area and it sounds like they catch them below the dam but I dont know that fore sure.

Mr (or Mrs) Muskie was a solid 40″ and FAT!
My buddy caught it on a tube with no leader. Med/lt rod and 10lb test. it was unbelievable that we got it to the boat.
There are monster flats in there because I’ve seen them caught. I don’t fish that far south but if you find over 10ft of water with logs you should be in business. Actually 6 to 8 f.o.w. is very rare up where I fish

    Thanks steve,
40 incher with no leader is a nice catch. He must have been sore after he pulled the horseshoe out of his
I had one on in the Minong flowage about that size opener this year and he made me look like a fool. Did manage a 34 incher but thats nothing like a 40″ nice catch.

I know a spot on the namekagon that hits about 14′ at a outside bend and there is wood everywhere in there. on the down stream run of it we have seen a couple monster fish we thought at the time were lake sturgeon but now after dealing with flats for a while I would bet anything they were flats. Them fish had to be over 45″ easy. Man what a battle that would be in a little river

Busch, weird thing about that ‘ski is we had all 3 canoes tied together when he nailed it. it was towards the end of that day’s float and that fish just hammered that tube on the bank. we definitely had overserved ourselves at that point.
Got a nice video of it and it swam away strong. great fish for VERY skinny water.
