Going to make some Apple Pie for Sunday the recipe calls for a 1/5 of Everclear and the Liquor Store only sells liters. So how many ounces in a 1/5?

Just off the top of the head? Might be a good way to get out of a ticket. “No seriously officer, I only had 25.6 ozs.”

So just dump the whole liter in and call it good

    Careful with that stuff Bucky!

I thought it tasted so good I took three good swallows. Fifteen minutes later I was on my knees asking Jesse to marry me.

    It’s close to a “fifth”

Before the adoption of metric units, booze in the U.S. was most commonly bottled in quarts and “fifths.” A quart is one quarter of a gallon, and a fifth is — you guessed it — a fifth of a gallon. Now, liquor comes in one-liter and 750-ml bottles, which are about the same size as the quart and fifth, respectively.

A 750-ml bottle — the most common size for wine — is 0.750 liter. In other words, it’s three quarters of a liter (because 3/4 = 0.75).

One fifth of a US gallon is 25.6 ounces, and 0.75 liter equals 25.4 ounces, so a 750-ml bottle is very close to a fifth.

I just made a batch the other day.My recipe called for 1/2 gallon of apple juice and a gallon of apple cider and sugar and cinnomon sticks and I used 3 cups of 151 Everclear. It called for 2-3 cups depending on what you like.If your using 190 I would try 2 1/2 and see what you think. You can always add more.

    Heres the recipe I use

    1 Gallon Apple Cider
    1/2 Gallon Apple Juice
    2 Cups Sugar
    3 Cinnamon Sticks
    2-3 Cups of Ever Clear

Bring Cider,Juice, Sugar and sticks to a boil.
Then simmer until Cinnamon sticks float.
10-15 minutes. Let cool. Add everclear to taste.
Usually 2-3 cups is perfect. More and it starts to get a bite but at 2-3 it is perfect

This is very similar to my recipe. The only difference is that it’s 1 gallon each of the cider and juice, 3 cups of sugar and then the whole liter of E.

Throw in a few whole cloves, a dash of vanilla, and a few sprinkles of nutmeg while you’re boiling it to give it a little “grandma-like” touch.

I can’t stress enough to let the mixture completely cool before adding the E. If it’s even the slightest bit above room temp, the alcohol will start to evaporate.

    I use this mix:

    1/2 gal. apple juice
    1/2 gal. apple cider
    1 cup sugar
    1 container of cinnamon sticks

I boil all of those together until the sugar dissolves and it caramelizes a bit, then let it cool to room temperature. Then I add 2 1/4 cups of everclear. Its a good mix to use, plus the finished amount fits into a gallon milk jug or an apple cider gallon jug, that is of course after the chef drinks a sample cup! I make it during the summer for the baseball team on a semi-regular basis.

Been a moonshiner for years. Make sure you let the brew totally coll and then I also like to drain it through cheese cloth to take out any snall pieces of cinn stick.
