Let me know how it taste , what color is the meat. I have caught several in my youth we would throw a dead sucker on the bottom and catch them in lily pad bays. OH yeah you are the first person I have ever heard of actually thinking of eating one SICK
Well after sitting here and doing a lot of research it turns out that my friend Troy is not alone in his quest for preparing dogfish (bowfin). If prepared properly the meat is firm and white. I’ve found many suggestions online ranging from casseroles to dogfish nuggets.
My best dogfish recipe…dip in a milk/egg base then into flour with seasoned salt. Then add 1/4 can of beer to flour and mix. re-dip into flour beer mix then into 350 degree oil in cast iron pan. Then fry till golden brown on both sides. Put onto a plate and squeeze lemon over the top. Then walk plate of fish over to sink and dump into disposal and start and let run for five minutes. Yummy!
I don’t know about eating dogfish….but one of the best laughs I ever had was watching my buddy TRY to fillet a gar cause he wanted to see how they tasted…never did get the job done !!!
Rub with butter and season fillets to your liking. Place on cardboard and cook in oven @ 300 for 30 minutes. Remove from oven, throw away the fillets and eat the cardboard.
