With a large Thank You going to Sgt Rock who found a meat grinder and the Trumar’s for transporting it, today I had a chance to taste a childhood memory.
The last time I had these was when we lived on Brown Street in Hutchinson MN. In checking with the Favorite Mother we figured I was 4 years old or less when we moved from that house.
Why I remember the ingredients, I don’t have a clue, but I recall I really like eating these. So break the monotony and give them a try!
1 Can Original Spam (I’ll be trying other flavors in the future)
1/4 cup of Onion
8 oz Velveeta Cheese (FM says American works well too)
Run the above through a meat grinder or use your food processor. Actually besides dicing the onions I think this could be mixed with your hands.
I used the smaller dinner rolls instead of hamburger buns that Mom used.
Spread the mixture on the rolls and broil for about 5 minutes until they are a bubbly brown or darker if you like.
One tip. Spread the mixture to cover the edges of the bun to keep the bun from burning.
These were just as good as I remembered them although a bit on the salty side for me. Maybe Low Sodium Spam next time(?)
Give them a try and enjoy with a bottle of Hamm’s Beer.
(You might have the opportunity to try one at Everts Turkey Combo next month…we’ll see.)
