With a large Thank You going to Sgt Rock who found a meat grinder and the Trumar’s for transporting it, today I had a chance to taste a childhood memory.

The last time I had these was when we lived on Brown Street in Hutchinson MN. In checking with the Favorite Mother we figured I was 4 years old or less when we moved from that house.

Why I remember the ingredients, I don’t have a clue, but I recall I really like eating these. So break the monotony and give them a try!

1 Can Original Spam (I’ll be trying other flavors in the future)
    1/4 cup of Onion
8 oz Velveeta Cheese (FM says American works well too)

Run the above through a meat grinder or use your food processor. Actually besides dicing the onions I think this could be mixed with your hands.

I used the smaller dinner rolls instead of hamburger buns that Mom used.

Spread the mixture on the rolls and broil for about 5 minutes until they are a bubbly brown or darker if you like.

One tip. Spread the mixture to cover the edges of the bun to keep the bun from burning.

These were just as good as I remembered them although a bit on the salty side for me. Maybe Low Sodium Spam next time(?)

Give them a try and enjoy with a bottle of Hamm’s Beer.

(You might have the opportunity to try one at Everts Turkey Combo next month…we’ll see.)

My mom growing up would make these, but she would just cube the spam and cheese, i think she added mayo too. The added onion sounds delicious. Will have to bring the great experience of spam into my house for them soon. Thanks for the memory I forgot about those until I saw your pic.

My mom made something very similar, except she added some ketchup into the mix, and baked them with both buns and wrapped in tinfoil. The odd thing was that I didn’t like them fresh out of the oven, but I loved them cold after they had been in the refridgerator.

    Down with a nasty cold.

There’s of course regular, jalapeño, hot and spicy, bacon… and garlic but I’ve never seen garlic and stores.

I’ve never used anything but regular ‘course this is the first time I made it since I was four years old.

Let us know how it goes

    MMM darn good.

Ran out of room on a baking pan to put all the meat on the buns, so i took the excess and added it to the prior day’s pulled pork loin. Warmed that up for dinner today on a bun. Dang nabbit. That’s pretty good.

Sounds great, BK! We used to do Spam-Cheese-Lics ……Spam slices with Cheese on those same dinner rolls. We wrapped them in foil & cooked them until the desired crispy was achieved. The kids loved them as much as Deb & I did.
