Cabelas has a “smoking” deal on a Masterbuilt Elite 30 right now. Electric, digital, meat thermometer and cover.
Any reason not to buy this brand?

I have a masterbuilt propane model and it works very well. The only reason I didn’t buy electric is that I understand it can be hard to reach optimal temps when it’s zero degrees out. On the flip side, sometimes it’s hard to keep the propane smoker below 250.

Maybe I need one of each

I also have a Masterbuilt propane and think its a very good smoker. I have no problem keeping it at 225 degrees

I have a Masterbuilt 30. Insulated, digital, electric. Not sure about the Elite part….I have had great luck with mine. I believe it tops out at 275 degrees. I used mine all winter, but i keep it in the garage on a rolling cart and take it out when i use it. Keeping the wind off it is key as well.

I read something about keeping the display portion warm and that makes it start easier….Something to that effect. The display comes off with 2 screws and a quick connect on mine.

Only thing I have trouble with is getting hot enought to crisp up chicken skin, butI wouldn’t hesitate at all to buy another one

I have a electric for about 5 years and I use it all year long. I live in Illinois and it get just as cold down here as up there. One thing in the winter I have a big cardboard box that I put around it to keeps the wind from robbing heat from smoker. It may take a little longer but, that just a few more beers.lol Good luck in your pick!!

I have the electric 30″ with glass door and it works great for me. Mine sits out on my deck all year. The electric smoker holds it temp great in the cold. Last year I used it below zero and it was just fine.

I have an electric and like it. Only problem I had was using it when the weather is too warm. When the ambient temp is high the burner would not run enough to make smoke. The insulated housing held the temp and the meat will cook fine but the burner is not on enough to make smoke. I had to turn the temp up for periods of time and open the unit up once in a while to get the burner to run longer. If anyone has any solutions to that I’d be interested.

I have the same problem with my electric Smokey Hollow. I ordered and received in the mail today a A-maze-N-Tube- Smoker. I am hoping this will work. Seems to have good reviews.
