Following up on the Crock Pot thread, pot your favorite slow-cooker / Crock Pot recipe.

Here’s mine. This is an oven recipe that you have to adapt to your crock pot, but that only involves adjusting the cooking time according to your crock pot’s temp.

Zinfandel-braised Beef Short Ribs. Totally freaking awesome!

Be sure to to use a smokin’ hot pan and olive oil to brown the ribs first to get them good and crusty on the outside.

After cooking, use the wine and onion as a base to make gravy. Again, totally awesome.

Does pork & beans with brown sugar count?

If they are totally awesome, it counts. My dad does a baked bean dish that takes 2 days, but the awesomeness is beyond all conventional measure.

I may have gotten this recipe from IDO long ago. Its always a hit when I make it.

Crock Pot Chicken and Wild Rice Soup
1-1/2 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast, cubed (frozen is okay)
    1-1/4 cup uncooked wild rice
    3 large carrots sliced
    3 stalks celery, thinly sliced
    1 large yellow onion, chopped
    1 can sliced mushrooms
    6 cups water
    8 chicken bouillon cubes
    1-1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
    2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

    To Flavor
    Garlic
    Cayenne Powder
    Rosemary
    Thyme
    bay leaves (3 or 4)

In large (6-quart) crock pot, combine all ingredients except the heavy cream and flour. Cover and cook on low heat setting for 5 hours, or until the chicken is cooked through and the rice is tender.

Combine the heavy cream and the flour. Slowly stir the cream mixture into the soup. Cook and stir constantly for 5 minutes, or until mixture is slightly thickened.

Sweet! I’ve been looking for a good CWR recipe. I have one pheasant left in the freezer and it will be used this weekend with this recipe.

We make a great BBQ chicken for sandwiches

    4 frozen chicken breasts
    shot of vinegar
    alittle brown sugar
half a bottle of BBQ sauce

    about 4 hours on high

shred with a fork and add alittle more BBQ sauce

Here’s an easy one that I do quite often. It makes for a really quick and hot breakfast.

1 cup steel-cut (aka Irish) oats
    ~don’t use regular, rolled oats~
    4 cups water
    dash of salt

I put this on the WARM or LOW setting in my crock pot before going to bed have hot oatmeal for breakfast at 6 am. Embellish as you see fit. Brown sugar is good. I really like a bit of cocoa powder and a bit of white sugar.

It makes 4-5 cups of cooked oatmeal. The leftovers microwave well with a little bit of extra water added.

yes its super easy we do it every couple weeks. I would think it would work with pork as well although I would be afraid of it drying out and not shredding easily.

When i used to duck hunt:

2-4 duck breasts in crock pot, add water, cream of mushroom soup. Put on low for 3 days.

    Then eat.

    Beef stew
cube a top sirloin, roll in seasoned flour and shake off extra flour. Brown the meat quickly and have a can of french onion soup and 2 cans lower sodium beef broth and a slash of red wine heating up in the crock. (I even add a tablespoon of tomato paste). Put beef into crock on lowest setting for an hour or two. Add the veggies, baby carrots, celery, potato, pearl onions, frozen corn and peas. Reseason the stew with salt, pepper, parsley, a little cajun seasonings. Continue for a couple hours till veggies are fork tender. Mix a little cooled broth with corn starch and stir into crock to thicken the broth. Have a loaf of store bought french bread warming up in foil in the oven. and go to town

That’s it, or you can add cabbage to it for the last hour.
