What size do you guys own? I’ve been craving kalua pork, and with the long hours I work a crock pot sounds like the way to go. It looks likes I might be going for the 8qt. hamilton beach from wallys, a lot of good reviews.

8 qt would be good for larger amounts. You don’t want one that’s too big for what you’re making or the food will dry out. You probably want the cooker to be at least half full.

Emeril 7 quart, Can set any number of hours for either low or high and then it automatically switches to “warm” mode until you are ready to eat.

8 qt is about right, 10 if you do larger meals. Temp control seems to me to be key. New crocks seem to be hotter even on low setting.

I love cookin crock pot stuff. Beef short ribs are awesome.

I also love the old school LeCreuset cast iron dutch oven things. We have 2, fantastic for all kinds of dishes.

I swear we have at least four different sizes. I will also second that I think the newer ones seem to be hot even at the warm setting.

I’ve got a Hamilton Beech 3-1 that we love. It has 2, 4, and 6 quart crocks and adjusts to fit whatever size you need.

Am I the only one thinking we should start a “best slow cooker recipe” thread?

Have any of you perfected a crock pot lasagna recipe? I’ve tried 2 of them and neither was very good as both were too wet and not enough of the “crusty edge”, but it must be possible because I’ve had great lasagnas that were done in a crock pot, but didn’t manage to get the recipe for either one. From what I’ve read online, there are a lot of little details that you have to get right for it to turn out. Anoyone have a good one?

X2 – What he said – particularly regarding the hotter settings on the newer ones. You might search for one that has a “warm” setting. On our newer 7 quart model, this means what “low” used to mean.

Recipe thread now started and my favorite posted. There’s more where that came from.

I kinda like this 3 in 1, does the warm setting on this get too hot?. I work 12hrs most times and don’t want anything to burn. Also this will be my first crock pot

I think LOW is too hot, but WARM is not. I’ll use that for long cooking times. Another thing you can do, if you’re using the 4 or 6 quart crock is to put it on the LOW setting for the 2 quart crock.
