I was reading about people that fry up fish eggs – walleye, perch, bass, etc – and eat them. Have any of you done this and if so, what would your recipe/instructions be? I am thinking about trying this if I can get a good recipe.

Fried with a little butter and a touch of salt. Don’t forget about gill eggs.

    Tastes like stink bait.

    My advice, don’t try it.
Tastes like BAD cream of wheat.

I heat up chicken noodle soup then add H20 plus a little bit of parsley and finally add my fish eggs. Taste like chicken.

LOL! This brings back memories of last year. My fishing buddy Nick Hagemann and I had managed a nice stringer of sauger and walleye. We had a couple that had eggs when we were cleaning. After cleaning a few and a couple of oat sodas, we had the eggs floating in the oil. Nick asked how you know when there done. Well, we gave them enough time and took them out. They kinda looked like an egg roll. Taste, I was glad I had a beer to wash them down. I would describe the taste as fish flavored cornbread. They had a grainy taste and I must say, they weren’t my favorite thing I’ve ever ate. However, it did make for a memory.

I’ve done the bluegill eggs and they taste very fishy to me. It was the consistency that was toughest for me…whoever it was that compared to bad cream of wheat was spot on! I just fried them in butter until firm.

They are salty and have a strange texture. Plus they leave a “fuzzy” feeling on your teeth like coke in the morning. I could eat them if I was starving but they are not my favorite… Won’t kill you to try them though.

I’m all for using as much of the fish as you can though. I always take the cheeks off of walleyes. Someone showed me how to take the stip of belly meat from between the pectoral fins on walleyes too. Best parts on em!

A number of years back a group of us were cleaning an awesome catch of perch after a long day on the ice… and in the bottle. We started to pile up the eggs on the table. In our group was a buddy that was really… lets say we didn’t let him have a knife. I told him I would give him $10 if he ate 5 egg sacks of my choice. He said “Show me the money.” and scooped up the hadfull of eggs and swallowed them whole. He then told me he would have done it for FREE! When $100 showed up on a large pile of male “Milk” sacks… he was tempted but refused. everyman has his price and every man knows his limitations… sometimes.

Have to be the whole bottle of Tequila not just a shot. Don’t even sound good.

I’ll stay with my earlier statement.
