Took a stab at some home made gyros. Not quite as good as a gyro you buy at some of the Greek places back home in Chicago, but a very close second. Nice part was that it was a lot leaner.
1/2 cup finely cut onion
1 # ground lamb
1# ground beef
2 t garlic
1 t oregano
1 t cumin
1 t marjoram
1 t salt
1/2 t thyme
1/2 t rosemary
1/2 t black pepper
Mix all ingredients and let rest for a few hours in fridge. Form into a loaf and cook at 350 for an hour. Let it rest for 15 min and slice thin. Served on warm pita bread with sliced onion, tomatoes, and yogurt/cucumber sauce.
