Fishing with Vets will be hosting an event out of Everts Resort on April 29th, 2017

I spoke with Justin Bailey this morning and he mentioned they need both boaters and veterans for the event. Along with donations. Please see photo below for contact information.

This kind of event is usually for disabled vets. I’m a vet, yet it strikes me odd to be invited to go fishing for something so many lifetimes ago.

So this makes wonder, how many IDO regulars are vets. In my minds eye, I would guess a lot.

I don’t honestly know the details of who is welcome but I will get that answer asap. From my understanding if you served our country (God bless you) than you deserve a day of relaxation in a boat no matter how long ago.

I just received a little more information from Justin Bailey regarding who is eligible for this event. Justin wrote:

One place to get more info on this and other planned events. https://www.facebook.com/fishingwithvets/
They used to have a website, but I cannot find it anymore. There are four events planned for this year including one in the Grand Rapids area and one on Lake of the Woods. I think one on Mille Lacs as well. First class operation and I’ve not heard of one person who walked away disappointed. When I get more info, I’ll post here.

I was one of the lucky ones to get picked to attend this event. The events are open to any veteran. The volunteer guides were great. The weather wasn’t the greatest, but you can’t help that. Fishing in the morning was slow, but it picked up in the afternoon. Every boat got into some fish as far as I know. There are pictures on the Facebook page from the event.

The one on Mille Lacs as well as one on Minnetonka are sponsored by another Vet fishing organization “TAV”. Not that it matters a whole lot but just to clarify. Both I believe are an outstanding opportunity to give back to our military service members!
