Fishing with a lantern

What are your thoughts of using a lantern for fish. Shallow water or deep water does the light spook them? How about moving around? Will the light cast shadows and spook the fish?
Differently affect different species. Crappie and walleye.
    Thanks!

In regards to crappies at night, I’ve seen it all. From having a light siting stationary at one spot and hole hopping without it, Sometimes they are attracted to the light, sometimes rise up to just beneath the ice, to completely spook from it. Really a case of watching your electronics very closely and see how the fish respond. Goes both ways Pro/Con.

For me, walleyes seem to spook much more easily. Moving lights, bright lights, and a lot of foot traffic in shallow is a curse. Then some nights, fish are so active that you can do no wrong
