Nothing beats a long weekend full of fishing, family, campfires, sunsets, nature, and watching my boys run! The weather was a little chilly but not too bad. We were lucky that the rain held off. Water temps were about 53-54 the first day or two and then warmed up to about 58 on the last day and we found a good mess of crappies for the freezer.

My GSPs Fritz and Remi aren’t really boat dogs. They love to run and it’s really funny whenever they see the four-wheeler or golf cart, they go nuts.. “Oh boy, we’re going for a fast run!” grin

The weather was perfect for an evening campfire – no bugs out yet!

I don’t know but he must have some tricks he can teach fly fishing while sitting down in a full boat. wink

This is not the traditional way you think of fly casting. First, the rod is a Cabelas CGR, a fiberglass 5/6 weight that has a slow action. The line is a 200 grain “Commando Head’, basically a 15 foot long heavy section of line. It’s connected to thin running line. With this setup I can do what is referred to as “single hand Spey casting”, essentially a form of roll casting. Without making a back cast I can shoot line out 50-60 feet no problem. The backcast used in conventional fly casting is where I’d have trouble with two other anglers in the boat, this eliminates that conflict.

This is a short video I put together from that weekend, it shows how this casting method works and i also catch a few Crappies in the process.
