Looking to take a fishing trip for walleye in June or July, any recommendations for lakes in the Midwest or resorts to stay at?

Where you coming from and how long do you want to drive? We have about 5,000 good options in MN.

Ha! Basically all the biggest lakes are very good walleye fisheries, (LOW, Red, Leech, Winnie, ML, Vermillion, Pepin, Rainy, Kab, Crane, Cass, Ottertail, Big Stone, Namakan) and then there’s a ton of good walleye lakes in the popular cabin country areas like Alex, Detroit Lakes, Park Rapids, Walker, Grand Rapids etc…if you only have 5 lakes you can catch walleye on, you need to watch more IDO to figure out how! whistling rotflol

Welcome to IDO. Like Werm said we have to many options to just say go here. Give us more to go on and most of us would be happy to help. You do not have to go to a destination lake to catch walleye, they live in lots of our smaller lakes too.

Have a friend going to Shetek, wish I could go, huge fertile bowl shaped reservoir, troll that thing with shad raps or flickers and you are in. Do not think i would go there in July though. Lakes like Kab look like Canadian lakes but they have half the fish and are crazy complicated, many of the lakes mentioned I would want to get a good guide for day 1 and thats assuming you asking questions and are paying attention! So consider lakes to the south alot of fertile bodies full of walters get ignored.

Thanks for all of the info so far, I’m coming from northern WI, I have no problem traveling 10-12 hours.

I don’t have anything against the “Great 8” or the main go-to huge lakes in MN (I enjoy being on them too) but the past few years our up north trips have been on much smaller, lesser-known lakes. One thing I like to do is go to Google maps and just move around, find a lake in an area I might like and then start looking at resorts on that lake. I’m 98% there to fish but I also want to feel up north too, so typically I’m looking somewhere in or near the Chippewa National Forest or the Arrowhead region and trying to find a lake in those areas that’ll work.

    Jeremy,

Only 7+ hours from Green Bay to North or South Dakota/Minnesota border. You mentioned driving 10-12 hours; opens up options for some good fishing in SD/ND as well..
