Fishing top advice needed

I need a bit of advice on getting a new fishing top. I have 2 companies lined up to have the work done, Permatop and Canvas Craft. Anyone have experience with either of these 2 companies? Pros and cons of Top Gun vs Sunbrella fabric? Anything I should be aware of and possibly upgrade when it comes to the mounting hardware/ materials? I’m on the fence about doing the side curtains and back at this time and might wait to have those made next spring, but if there is a reason to have it done all at the same time I open to hearing why. Almost forgot, this will be going on a 2019 G3 angler V18-sf.

I have had 2 or 3 jobs done by Canvas Craft. I like them, they do good work. Don’t skimp on zippers if you intend to keep the boat for a while.

I can count on one hand the number of times that I’ve used my side curtains. Too much of a PITA to put on in freezing weather and I can dress for the cold and have an onboard heater. The only time I use them is for rain. Side curtains also make the boat like a sail and easily pushed around by the wind. As for materials, I’ve had both and liked both.

Top Gun in a heartbeat over Sunbrella.
TG won’t straight line rip when it gets a hole in it. If you poke Sunbrella and pull it will tear wide open easily.

Back and side curtains come in handy quite a bit for myself. I dont get all the time in the world to fish, so when I go out it’s rain or shine, I’ll wait out lightning on shore with the top up and having a cold one until it passes.

Please post a pic of your setup when it’s up, that’s a very nice boat. Haven’t seen one with a top yet.

Quality zippers, and Top Gun fabric..good info. I don’t have a good pic of the boat uncovered but I snapped one at the dealer some weeks back. And I will be sure to post up a finished pic. Still debating on doing the whole package or just doing the top this year. Things have got a bit expensive this year.

Well we got the top finished up today, and we are starting our trip up to Kab in the morning. A few pics as promised, I think Canvas Craft did an excellent job. Friendly folks to deal with, and prices are on par with other folks in the business. Also, I don’t have a pic right now but I had them convert my strap cover into a fitted snap cover, something I should have done from day 1.

Ill be in the market for this next year I think? looks like a quality top! Do they make it the way that you ask them to? Are we talking hundreds or thousands?

They custom make them for each boat so they get your input, wants and needs. You get lots of input from them on what works, but ultimately they will build it the way you want it built. And you have the choice of material and hardware depending on ones budget. Thousands, but wishing it would have been hundreds. coffee

Didn’t G3 factory offer one that you could have ordered?
