I had heard that taking notes on your fishing experiences can make you a better angler. So I was wondering if anybody takes notes about their fishing outings, so you can refer to them in the future? And if so what does everybody include in their notes?

    I do not.
But my father, who was a great fisherman and taught me all I know, was an avid note taker. He recently showed me his logs that he had kept over the years.
It’s hard to remember everything you caught, where you caught it, what time of year, moon phase, what time of day, which baits you were using and what techniques you employed simply from memory. I know I should take notes but I don’t. It’s something to consider for sure.

Flow(when fishing the river) Did it change during the day?
    Water Temp
    Barometer
Was it cloudy, sunny, scattered showers,??
Baits(specific colors too), speeds, and cadences
locations and time of day and conditions for each location
    number of fish and sizes
Who I fished with and what they tried as well.

Just started a few years ago during ice fishing. I record: ice depth, weather, barometer, total catch, presentations, time fished, time spent driving, fun quotes from the day etc. just fun stuff to look back on some day but primarily lakes fished, dates, and presentations with the weather. It’s just neat looking back on them from a few years ago.

    fun quotes from the day

This is something I wish I would have started a long time ago. I just started doing this in past couple of years. Between my young son and the fishing crew at the cabin there were some good ones that have been lost with time.

I’ve been keeping one for sometime and you do start to notice patterns. I also include short stories about the day/weekend that will hopefullyt make it fun for the kids to read in the future.
