Fishing near a dock de-icer?

    Never been ice fishing before but I know of a dock near me that has a de-icer. Is it a bad idea for me to fish standing off the dock near or around the de-icer?

    If the de-icer is intended to remove or weaken the ice around the de-icer standing near it seems… unwise. I’d recommend a spudbar be used to check ice thickness if you plan to fish anywhere nearby.

    It’s just like open water resulting from current on a river or lake. Be very cautious.

    Fishing off the dock, if you can, would be the best choice.
