What lb test line do you guys use to fish walleyes on Lake of the Woods. I will be using spoons and Rippin Raps as well as dead sticking. Majority of my fishing will be out of a heated house unless we have nice weather. Do you guys use ice line or will standard monofilament work just as well. This is my first time fishing Walleyes through the ice so any info will be appreciated. We will fishing mid March. Thanks

I’ve always used 6 lb mono for walleye up there, using mainly 1/8 oz to 3/16 oz spoons. If you’re sure you will be fishing in a heated house the whole time then you could use some braid, I think I have 8 or 10lb braid on a few of my reels.

I think standard mono is fine.

You can use standard or ice marketed lines, 4lb-6lb. If it’s really about this one trip than setting up for a season then many choices will be just fine.

The group I go with uses all kinds. Some are really picky, one guy just uses what’s handy from summer, and one guy has braid on one of his rods.

We haven’t see a huge difference in our group. I’m the picky one in the group. That said I’m setting my rods up for particular presentations for the whole season. I’m matching line to rod weight: 4# ice mono(deadstick), 4# Pline(1/8th or lighter), 5# pline(1/8th-1/4 if I can find it), and leave the braid rod at home.

With a little patience you can land pretty much any walleye with this line. Just check your drag in the morning before cocktails start wave

8 or 10 lb power pro tied with small snap. It is dirty water. I don’t use a leader. I have fished with a heck of a lot of people up there over the last 30+ yrs and have never noticed any pattern where guys using lighter tackle did any better. IMO, lots of people spend far too much time worrying about tiny details up there and not enough time jigging.
