Fishing in the high country in Crested Butte, Colorado

Was over in Crested Butte recently for the weekend and had a great time! Very beautiful area with lots of water to fish, none of which I ever had before…First time being past Gunnison! We stayed on a house on the Slate River and began the first day of fishing, getting lines in several spots along the long winding river.

Very murky conditions and lots of runoff, made for some challenging fishing. After a few hours, my GF, little sister, my niece, and myself went over to some small bodies of water…Mostly to get the skunk out and also to see if we could get my niece into her FIRST EVER fish. She succeeded in casting, hooking into, and landing her very first fish. She was ecstatic🥳

After a few hours there, we decided to get back to fishing rivers. We hit the East River, and although same type of conditions much better luck there. Found a few really nice looking pools and caught a good handful of brown trout! Great times out fishing all new water in very beautiful scenery! Hard to beat that, especially when the fish start biting.

Got some good drone shots of the area, some underwater shots of some releases, fly fishing catches, spinning catches, and several species of trout. Made for a fun video if you have the time😀 Hope you all enjoy! We were up there for a full weekend, the second part of the trip I will upload later this week when done editing!

Awesome pictures! Those drone pictures sure seem like they would be handy for scoping out rivers out there.

This will be my first year since 2017 not heading west in the fall, but can’t wait to get back out there. The FW DEFINITELY would not appreciate me elk hunting two weeks before kiddo #3 is due to arrive. chased

Thank you! It’s certainly an area I would recommend to any visitors. There is a really awesome river with big trout in it a short distance away. We will be uploading part two of the trip, fishing that shortly😀
