Fishing for Bait

I must have caught 15-18 of these in a half hour on doughballs. They are actually pretty good fighters on an ultralight.

I didn’t know the pond i fish the most had them, although, like Gators, if there is water, there are probably shiners.

I won’t ever use these for bait, at least not this size. I’d rather let these keep the ecosystem healthy. Many were fat with eggs so they must be spawning soon. Most of these were about 10″.

Not from MY pond. I have trail cams set up. )

I haven’t bought shiners from bitters in a while. I don’t think the price was too bad. I think a dozen are about $10, but half this size. I’d prefer that to using a breeder I caught myself.

I’d have a hard time not putting that under a float for largemouth if I lived in FL!

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about it. But I think leaving them in there, as I stated, benefits me more.

I’ve always said if the MN DNR ever relaxes bait importation regs, I’m heading south to pick up some jumbo shiners for fall musky season.

Considering the fight they put up, they’d be deadly.

I saw a few cool rods at FF that were about 4′ and called micro lite. Thought about picking one up for bait fishing.

    Stay off my pond!

Careful, there may be DNR rules against catching your own bait!

If you decide to buy it, contact my bro. He retired from the post office and took a PT job at FF. If your nice, maybe he’ll let you use his discount.
