So I have heard there are 5 fishing floats on the River. I have seen them but never paid much attention to them. I have never heard anything word of mouth down here at all about them. But I saw a Youtube the other day about one and it got me thinking. Why not get a group together to go up to one of them. Bring the young and old. Picnic. Any advise about which Floats are good and one’s to avoid is appreciated. Of course we will fish, some anyways, but more just for getting together. Advise as far as toilets, food, comfort, safety, all and any appreciated. — Rob

The one good one i know of in my area is Clement’s fishing barge in Genoa. It is about 15 min south of Lacrosse.I do believe they shut down for most of July and August.

Avoid – pool 7. Guys a hack, float is about unsafe as you can imagine. Makes me believe they don’t do safety checks on them anymore. Anyways, it’s been partially under water and hanging by a thread. If the flow had been any more this spring, it would be in the deltas by now. Mile mark-714 might have a few quality pics to share

Pool 8 & 9 each have nice set ups and good owners. As for fishing, your knitted to what is migrating up to the dam at that time. Like anywhere on the river, ya never know what wonders in.

Like Randy says, La Crosse and Genoa are good floats. Trempealeau is not very nice. Fishing is a lot better in spring and fall than summer but always something biting it seems.

Haven’t been there in years. That’s too bad about the Trempealeau float. It’s right ontop of a wing dam and fishing can be incredible there. Great location…

I haven’t been on the Alma one in years, but it always seemed to have some action in Spring and Fall when we’d jump on the shuttle and ride over as kids while visiting relatives. It wasn’t anything fancy at the time but didn’t seem unsafe. There’s probably better options for catching when it gets into the heat of summer, but it’s hard to argue with convenience and trying something new.

It’d at least be worth a phone call or looking them up on social media to see if they provide what you’re looking for

Does Clements still run the fishing tournament in September? Have heard that is good time.
