So due to the insane water levels i cancelled my trip to VNP from the 25th-29th. i am now trying to plan a new trip with my fishing buddy. Looking for suggestions.

We would be fishing out of my alumacraft 175. Aside from Ft. Pierre any place we go needs to have a campground near by as we will be tent sleeping. we have the 25th-30th off of work. my buddy has family in Ft Pierre. We thought about heading out there and fishing the Missouri and stopping along the way to fish and camp on some of those lakes in East SD. Ive never fished in Eastern SD. Any recommendations?

I made a reservation at Federal Dam on Leech lake but we might cancel those as my buddy is looking more for an adventure.

Other lakes we are considering is Truman lake based off of Beads recent trip and a lake called Reelfoot in Tennessee. Neither of us have ever been there my buddy just remembers seeing it in fishing magazines as a kid and sounds like a good place for an adventure. Only issue with some of these down south trips is we are trying to decide if we wanna spend the money with gas and all the other stuff.

Any other lakes/destinations you can think of to add to the list?

Not sure how far you want to drive but I’ll throw Fort Peck out there. That one is on my bucket list. Good walleye, Lake Trout, Big Pike, and good SM. What more can you ask for. Lots of campgrounds

Rainy is fun. Run from Kab up to Kettle Falls and on to the east end of Rainy and camp & fish.

Lol ya. I listened to those with experience. When you and grubson say this year the situation is drastic and problematic I reluctantly changed gears. I’ll get to VNP someday before I die

Vermilion would be an awesome choice. Beautiful lake would be very much like going to VNP.

Sakakawea in ND. Fort Peck possibly too, but that’s 2 days driving and not fishing. Otherwise I’d check off a MN Bucket List lake, or area. Plenty of area’s like Park Rapids, Alex, OTC, Detroit Lakes, Grand Rapids etc. that you could fish a different lake everyday and not even dent the possibilities in the area. LOW seems to be on fire thus far, and that’s never a bad choice imo.

If I had my choice, I’d go with Ft Peck. Especially after seeing the IDO shows there.

thanks for the ideas fellas. just learned today my fishing buddy tested positive for the rona so that sucks. Trip is still 5 days away so we should still be able to get somewhere as long as hes feeling up to it.

You may save Reelfoot for a earlier spring trip. Like March April. Local told me by the end of April. Everything you pickup has a cottonmouth under it. Mid April they are there. Just move a little slower.
