My wife and I have found ourselves with no kids or responsibilities over spring break this year and we are thinking about taking a last minute trip to the Big Easy. Anyone have any experience fishing down there in March? I assume there’s some way to fish Redfish that time of year, but can anyone recommend any charters or places to check out?

Availability is probably going to be tough, but it’s worth a shot!

Ok, let me see if I’ve got this straight.

You got time off. With the wife. Alone. Sans kidlets. In Nawlins. One of the greatest eating, drinking, and general carousing cities on Earth.

    And you wanna go…fishing?

Phil, have you had that new to you Sabaru checked for carbon monoxide leaks?

Haha well first off I didn’t get a new to me Subaru!

Second, my wife loves fishing and loves eating fish. Seems like a win win to bring home a bunch of redfish and or specks.

We went to Alaska for our honeymoon and spent half the time fishing :).

I’m going to be fishing in Biloxi in May. All the shows on TV seem to be out of Venice, both are about an hour and a half from NO. I have to imagine that the opportunities are plentiful.

Give Capt John Pounders a call @ 504-382-2268. Been fishing with him for years. I have never fished that time frame but he is a straight shooter and won’t lie to you. Hate to be a name dropper but tell him Paul from Minnesota referred you to him.

You definitely should fish. You’re 90 minutes or less from great red fish and a true experience on the bayou. Buschman and I fished out of Delacroix once. It’s closer to NOLA than Buras or Venice, and there’s a lot of fish. The guide we used is a seasonal, fall only. Find a guide with a flats boat and good reviews; I’d bet you’ll have a great time. The drive down there and boat ride through the channels is worth it even if the fish don’t bite.

We had a good time with Walter at Fin Twisters Guide service out of venice. We had a better time when we hit the gulf chasing the bigger reds, but he knows how to fill a box full of slot fish too.

Let’s get serious here. Fishing for a couple hours is all fine but Norleans is about eating drinking and listening to good music. French Street is a great non bourbon street to hit with a number of good clubs bars and restaurants on it. Kind of a old Norleans vibe to it without as much riffraff. MRB bar on Philip St. was one of our favorites. They had a nice courtyard in the back that kicked out some great food. The grilled half shell oysters at Mr. Ed’s was fantastic and the service was great. Tropical Bayou bar has great zydeco music on bourbon. Mud bugs are in season in march and I highly recommend eating as many of these as you can. Good luck fishing!
