I was playing around on my jazzy smartphone and was able to make a video of pictures from our annual springtime fishing trip with my husband Billy and my Dad (Steve Root). We had a great time and interesting weather! It went from warm and sunny to cloudy and windy over the weekend, although it didn’t rain. We were mainly fishing for crappies and sunnies and we found them in the shallower water around last year’s old weeds. They were biting very light and I even ended up putting on a pencil bobber rather than my usual bobber, which made casting in that wind a little difficult. Dad was flyfishing of course and even in those winds, he’s a champ at casting. He was throwing flies with his 6 weight a popper-dropper setup. A surprising number of fish wanted the topwater, including the crappies, which is always fun to see when they go for the topwater fly. I like to use my Dad’s flies as well with a small splitshot and bobber on my spinning rod. He ties some great stuff and the saying “Bright day, bright lure, dark day, dark lure” was true for us this weekend. On the sunny days we found the chartreuse was working and on the cloudy/windy days we switched to throwing darker flies with more muted colors. I absolutely love weekends away with my two favorite guys, and of course my dogs, Fritz and Remi! The dogs and I roamed the yard for about 45 minutes on Thursday in the breezy sun looking for bugs and critters, but we didn’t find anything. I usually find a toad or grasshopper or two, but it must be a bit early yet.

Cool video Sharon! I’ve always told myself I was going to do this type of thing with my pictures but I never seem to make time for it.

Luckily we were at a family cabin in WI for this trip. We have stayed at campgrounds before with the dogs and it’s doable, but a challenge. We have come to enjoy the relaxation and quietness of private land.
