Hey guys…I have an old fish trap 2 that was given to me and I use the heck out of it. It’s a great little house but the canvas is starting to get pretty thin. I have been doing some research and from what I understand the fish trap 2 and the fish trap guide use the same tent. The guide replacement can be purchased from clam. Can anyone verify this? If this is the case is there a thermal option that will work. I would much rather just replace the tent on the sled I like for a couple hundred bucks rather than spend $500 or $600 on a new one. Thoughts?

I tried calling clam but did not reach anyone. I’m sure they are a little busy this time of year. After searching around online last night as well as on this forum, I decided to order the nanook thermal tent. It was $229 from clam. From what I understand that is the same dimensions as the fish trap 2, which then became the guide, and then the nanook. I did measure and verify my dimensions match those that are listed in the nanook manual. I’ll be sure to post results as well as pictures for anyone that is interested and has the same house.

Received a couple PMs from guys wanting results on this. Here it is. The Nanook thermal tent is a little taller then my fish trap was. But very little. A little playing around with the poles and drilling some new holes and I’m happy with it. For the price I was able to save a couple hundred bucks and now I have a thermal house. Pretty sure me getting a thermal house caused the heat wave. Sorry guys.

Trap 2 is a great sized house and is an ideal walkers house. I have one and love it. IT fits any size pick up bed perfectly and is lightweight so it can be picked dup easily by one person.

The original version canvas sucked because there really were no canvas flaps at the edge of the sled which allowed wind into the trap.

The aluminum poles were quite fragile so i replaced the lower straight poles with steel conduit. It now goes up and dow easily.

So if you need to extend your poles to tighten your canvas you could do similar and just make them a bit longer.

This is a great idea and one I will be doing myself.

    Thanks!

I plan to replace the poles like you said. For now and probably the rest of the season I simply drilled the holes that the stopper goes in closer to the end of the pole. I love this little house and it was given to me. I think it was definitely a worthwhile upgrade.
