Fish house TV – LCD or LED?

I’m sure this has been talked about before but rigging the new Ice Castle with a TV. Which is better in cold LCD or LED? Obviously makes sense to warm up the house before turning on. Just curious what the preference is. I will be hooking an underwater camera to this TV also. Thanks in advance for any help.

I believe they are both the same. It was my understanding that an LED tv, is just an LCD tv with LED back lighting… If you warm the house up it shouldn’t be a problem. I think the biggest concern is rapid heating/cooling which could lead to condensation….

LED has a much lower draw than LCD plus it is fine being cold. I have never had any issues with my 19″ LED in my little 6 x 8. I can run it for a day or so just off a 12V deep cycle. If you have a generator, deciding LED or LCD isn’t as much of a worry.

They both have mostly the same technology inside, just backlighting is different. LCD TVs use fluorescent bulbs to backlight a Liquid Crystal Display. While LED TVs use LEDs to backlight a Liquid Crystal Display.

I’d go with LED if it were my choice. Fluorescent bulbs don’t like the abuse a fish house may give them.

Plus aren’t LEDs alot lighter than older LCD TVs?
Makes a difference when hanging from walls, or lifting it on and off.

I’ve found that tube TVs can withstand the most punishment. I have one of these mounted in my ice house. I just used 30″ lag bolts to drill right through the TV cabinet and into the walls.

The picture quality is average, but if someone breaks in I have a booby trap set that releases the TV from it’s mount onto the would be burglar’s head.

It would still be more popular than the RT-9 applause toast

    All in fun.
