I bought a jet boat for the river in my state and i have a xi5 motorguide trolling motor on the front and it has built in sonar but i am having so much trouble finding out information on mounting a bow mounted fish finder. I have a hook7 triple at the console but i fish 90% of the time at the bow of the boat. I want to add a down scan to the front but all the info that motor guide give is kits that are 200$ roughly and that has 3 connectors one from the motor, middle for power and 3rd to the head unit. they have adapters on amazon that are only like 10″ long, so i was looking if i buy a hummingbird helix unit i dont know if i can adapt the motor guide built in sonar to it without the 3 way backbones or if i can get away with the adapter and just run my own power to the batteries. they give a list of units they can work with but all i want is a simple bow mounted sonar so i can see some of the structure im fishing, im about to just go ahead and get one and install a transducer pole and by pass the motor but i really dont wanna spend that much extra.

My motorguide xi5 I run a hds 9 up front and don’t link it to my counsel unit. Hds plugged right in to the motorguide and runs that ducer. Otherwise I’d run one of my garmin units to its own ducer tied on the motor

I have a lowrance 9 on the front of my boat that is hooked directly to the xi5 motor. Works great for spot lock and “go to” feature.
