Chippewa River and Yellow River are open as are the boat landings. I got out for a few hours and only managed to outsmart 3 crappies but they were over 11″ so I took them home for dinner. I also got a pike and two 17″ smallies on the crappie jigs which added a little excitement on an otherwise slow day. There were several lookers I couldn’t coax into biting. I sampled a variety of locations and depths, and all the fish I saw were on the channel edges – either the top of the edge around wood or the bottom of the drop. The crappies had no eggs so it appears the males are starting the migration to staging areas.
Water temp was 43-45
