Hey guys, I am heading up to lake of the woods tomorrow for the first time going out on my own and not renting a sleeper from a resort. I am looking at most likely going out of Morris Point. I understand there is quite a bit of snow on the lake. Wondering what the best way to get a spot plowed for us to set the shack. Any other pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wouldn’t try driving off a plowed road, we have a pretty good layer of snow. You can check with whoevers road you are going out and see what they charge to plow a spot. Other options is to look for vacated spot or a wind blown spot.

Might be worth a call to this new outfit to see what they might do. They took over the old Bablers location on Rocky Point.

When you stop to get your road pass ask about getting a spot plowed. You can also wave down a plow truck driver once you are out on the lake and ask him to plow a spot. Some resorts that run roads plow spots in there road for wheel houses and some don’t.

I usually try to point the door of the shack opposite of the direction the wind is coming from. So, the door doesn’t get iced up as bad.

We are planning on coming up Saturday morning. Please let us know how the fishing is.

I am fishing right now on LOTW in our wheelhouse and fishing has been very rough. I did catch a 27 incher on Red Lake Monday Morning. Wherever you get access should plow a spot for a small fee.

    Ny,

Which road did you end up going out of?

    How has the fishing been?

Yesterday was a good day of fishing. Today was very slow and small fish. We are just leaving now.

    Brad,

    Thanks for the report.

We are on Red for the night tonight and heading to LOTWS in the morning. We brought the snowmobile so we can go off road. I will post how it goes.

    Red was slow last night.

Lotws was slow today. But we did catch a few. And we are able to watch football tonight.

    Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
