All the football on TV must be affecting me. Think I found a good lake for this it has some rocky humps that top out at 10-15′. Think I’ll use SI to find rocks do some fast stuff then slow it down to drag and stop, drag and stop. Sound like a good plan? I always start fast and slow dow. Cranks maybe a chetterbait with a craw plastic, biffle tecnique. Maintain bottom contact is what I have read. Any football fanatics out there? When does this pattern start and stop in the year? Can you get big (20+”) fish with football? Thanks

Yep. Drag and sit. Change your speed until you find what works. Stay near the rocks. Don’t be afraid to let it set for a good while. Watch for your line to jump and set the hook!

AND YES!!!! You can get some giants on the football. Especially when the water temps get low. You don’t catch many but the ones you do are big! I always go for my PB in late October or early November with a football jig.

Depends on the depth, current, wind, etc. In 10 feet with “normal” conditions I’d start with a 3/8oz and adjust up or down from there. Starting at 20 feet I’d try 1/2oz and adjust from there.

For someone just learning to use s football jig, I’d highly recommend 3/4 oz for anything deeper than 8 or 10 feet.

When shopping for jigs, look for ones with a recessed line tie. It’ll protect your knots from getting too banged up in the rocks.
