First LOTW trip

My son and I are making our first LOTW trip this upcoming weekend. We are renting a sleeper for a couple of nights through a local resort. I don’t know at this point where they have the sleepers but it sounds like the fish are starting to move more towards the shallower water. Hopefully they are moving them to stay on the fish. My question is if fishing gets slow should we go exploring? Trying to decided if I want to bring the auger during any big lulls and try some different spots from our sleeper or am I better of staying put or maybe heading to the bar for lunch and catching up on some NCAA games until the early afternoon? As I said, first trip ever here so very unfamiliar but I know enough not stray very far from the plowed roads also. Any input welcome.

Where resort are you using? Weekends are usually full so the chances of getting put into a day house will be slim.

Sleepers are usually closer to shore so prime time(s) morning and evening are usually best.

    Have fun!

We are going through Wigwam Resort. Never thought about asking on day houses as I figured we could maybe pick up a few here and there throughout the day but with temps into the low 40’s Saturday I figured we could get out a little to if need be. Hopefully we are forced to stay put!

We did good in 30′ last week west of Baudette. Caught some nice walleyes but only one keeper sauger.

I would ask wig wam for a spot to try in the daytime if the action has been slow for the sleepers during the day. Bring some tipping $.

Didn’t try. Used fathead heads and full fatheads under bobbers. Jigging bite was much better than dead stick.

Red macho minnow was working good for my friend. I was using glo-shots with almost similar success.

I was up the first weekend of March and found shiners at Timberland gas station in Blackduck, they also have a great selection of lures for LOTW. Otherwise Big Dicks bait in Kelliher was advertising that they had shiners aswell. He was even offering I think 15% if you brought proof in of being a Vet.

I’m heading to Winnipeg today; I have two 12” extensions on my auger, the thing looks like something out of a horror movie….
