I can always tell when a post is a Dave post because of the excessive use of capital letters and exclamation marks

Indeed. Did you Like, Share, and Subscribe as requested?

Fun FACT I actually don’t do that with the all caps….? It seems to do it by itself
October 30, 2019 at 9:13 pm #1887989I can also see when people don’t have any aspirations to be anything in life because they tend to spend it tearing others down!
October 31, 2019 at 6:56 am #1888008He’s a YouTuber, he almost has to make headlines for his videos like that to get noticed. Also find me a YouTube video that doesn’t ask for a like, share, and subscribe. When you have guys like Milliken Fishing and the Frost Bite guys titling everything like it’s either life or death, or some sort of world changing event. Dave doesn’t do a lot of hyperbole or false advertising. His videos are way more reflective of the title then almost all other YouTube fishermen.

This is the exact reason I will not watch their stuff. If they have to make up titles to get notice then their stuff must not be very good or I would have already have notice them and subscribed to their channel.
Sorry Dave but 95% of time I can tell when I am clicking onto your post.
October 31, 2019 at 9:52 am #1888045They ask for likes and shares so their videos can get noticed more on youtube so they can reach a border audience.

…and so we can watch an Expedia ad and he can get paid — and then also hopefully click on one of his MANY “Amazon affiliate” links to purchase the products he recommends, which he gets a commission on.
Sorry Dave but 95% of time I can tell when I am clicking onto your post.
yep. And that’s fine, Dave seems like a super nice, energetic dude and he’s free to post whatever he wants. People have the right to react to that as they see fit as well.
I just did a quick run through the first page of Dave’s “topics started” list — every single thread on that most recent page includes one of his embedded videos. To me that says the primary reason he comes here is to promote his business.

bigpikePosts: 6259October 31, 2019 at 4:31 pm #1888155Terrible. Bringing fishing videos to a fishing web sight, then having the nerve to look for input on the video topic. Whats the world coming to. Ha! Not only that he replys and adds to the threads he starts. I’m going back to the sports threads and look for some good ol fashion chest thumping and other guy team bashing. Thats what I’m here for!
October 31, 2019 at 4:50 pm #1888157As a youtuber myself I hate seeing the Googans and Milliken and all their gimmicky videos. They truly are clickbait whores. The thing that really annoys me is they are making more money than most of us little channels combined and instead of relying on quality equipment and superior editing abilities, and great fishing opportunities, they rely on clickbait.
I post some of my videos here as well and got the same flack for it for a little while. I’ve chatted with Dave on and off this site and he does seem to be a good guy. As long as it’s pertinent info for this site I think it’s all good.
Getting ragged on is part of being a youtuber. Most of us can handle it.
October 31, 2019 at 5:05 pm #1888162It blows my mind that some people are giving somebody a hard time for posting fishing related content on a fishing forum. Especially when some days, the fishing related content on here is scarce at best. Im my opinion we could replace those people with more guys like Dave.
I enjoy watching the videos, Dave’s, Mahtofire14’s, and many many other YouTube guys, keep them coming please!DeucesPosts: 5236October 31, 2019 at 5:23 pm #1888166Who’s tearing who down here?
As far as I can tell some users stated they both feel he’s a good guy. Facts are facts when it comes to what else was stated.
Ahren was just commenting how his headlines are predictable. Nothing wrong there.
Dave got a lil defensive IMO.

Right? I went outta my way to say he seemed like a nice dude and enjoyed some of the fishing content.
Fishing videos are awesome. Gear videos that are created with the purpose of driving sales so the reviewer can get a kickback are… something else. When people like James and Pat promote an Okuma product or Suffix line or whatever, it’s very clear that there is a sponsor relationship there. The other stuff, not so much.
My 2 cents, disagree if you want. No skin off my back.

And this is a discussion board where topics may extend beyond fishing specific topics, and members report events or happenings related…inviting comments.
If all we wanted to do is watch You-Tube fishing videos, we’d go there and not look for it here.
Furthermore, the “General Discussion” is perhaps one of the most popular forums where folks share a variety of topics, that of which seem to garner the most responses that day.
And I have no doubt Dave is a nice guy. However, upon a bit more research, I find that all of Dave’s comments or replies are on his own posts/threads.
Which I suppose did make me wrinkle my nose some, realizing that he’s likely responding to his own thread to keep bumping it back to the top and inviting more clicks on the You-Tube. It seems, at least in my opinion that his primary motivation is self-promoting.
Even on the very rare occasion he commented on someone else’s thread, it was with one of his You-Tube videos imbedded.
Mahtofire has commented many times on a wide range of topics/threads without a video.
I hope not to judge, maybe I am…but this is my observation.
There are many here who share information sincerely, or comment with an opinion that we may agree or disagree with…but it’s not a self promoting position.

[/quote]Ok…..
Exactly my point.
Why do you care that’s he’s trying to promote himself and his fishing channel/ brand on a fishing forum?
Wrinkle your nose all you want, he has just as much right to be here as any of us. If you don’t like it don’t click on it. Apparently his posts are easy to spot so it shouldn’t be hard to avoid them if you so choose. Remember the golden rule? This is nothing new, not just this thread, so sorry to you other guys if you thought I called you out. There’s been many other similar threads over the years.
So what if he only posts on his threads or only posts to bump his threads. It’s his right.
This is America afterall, let the man do/ say what he wants, he is not breaking any rules or being offensive in any way. This isn’t your website, no matter how much you post, everyone else still has just has much right to do so as you.
Bring on the ice.

However lessons learned, is that you allow yourself to accept criticism without getting immediately defensive. Criticism seems hurtful on the surface, but it’s not typically just picking on someone or mere bullying. At least not from respectful adults.
I would hope those under such scrutiny might rethink their approach and hopefully recognize what might be causing the “wrinkled noses”.
Behavior changes are not wrong if it makes you better at what you want.
You need to look in the mirror sometimes, I do and don’t always like my reflection either.
Sometimes it’s better to listen…than to say.
And with that, I’ve already said too much.
November 1, 2019 at 1:48 am #1888216I’ll just say these few things and everyone is entitled to their own opinions…
I very much appreciate anyone who has had my back plain and simple. Thank you.
Second if you were to go back long before I ever had a YouTube channel with factual things to reference directly I spent many days on IDO asking for help and advice on the regular and back then people seemed a bit more friendly and respectful to conversate and talk about said topics that I started… now I’m going to leave it at this. I have always been a fisherman since I was able to hold a rod and that knowledge that I have gained over the year would go to waste had I never started my channel… I hope everyone can understand that if they had the ability to share their love of fishing with the world that they most likely would. Enjoy your ice season guys and gals and be safe!

Dave,
Lessons learned…and I’m referring to myself now.
I’ve learned that some of what I added here was not helpful, there was no good reason for me to pile on critism already made.
My apologies…
…live and keep learning. We’re all the better for it.
Fish on!

November 2, 2019 at 8:40 am #1888413Just curious… Some guys say “skin off my back”, some say “skin off my nose”. I use “skin off my nose”. Is this a regional thing? I grew up in St. Paul.
November 2, 2019 at 7:42 pm #1888476Never heard “skin off the nose” and I’ve lived in MN and the east coast…..which I guess means I have no clue.

I am from WI and I have never heard that! That just sounds like it would shudder coming out of your mouth if you’re a man
