Duluth has a few quality lakes freezing over with small areas that have walkable ice out to 100′. I was fishing yesterday on 3″ which is the thinnest I’ll feel comfortable on. certain lakes have spots of ice that froze days later and the thickness varies quickly under soft snowpack. I made sure to carry a spud bar and venture with the utmost caution.
Be EXTREMELY careful and make sure to wear picks; definitely worth the first fish through the ice (even if it was a tiny pike)!
