Came out this morning for the kids first hunt, done in a hour, he shot great. Mix of teal mallards and woodies. His smiles tells me he wants to be a bird hunter

Not the same today. 1 woody hen. We didn’t see any teal, mallards all passed high over the trees and he had a few missed shots at a couple other woodies. Not even a quarter of the birds moving today

Yep, the birds are now educated after being shot at for approx 7 days in a row between the teal and the youth seasons.
Hopefully they settle down and stick around for the next opener that occurs in 2 weeks.

Yep Mason looks like he’s hooked on another species to hunt. Great job dad!

    Until he eats them.

He cut them up, he marinated them, he grilled them and shared some with me. Delicious

Depends on the species of duck. I always thought puddlers were decent eating. The mallards, woodies, and teal.

The divers and geese were bad. I’ll never eat one again.

I’m not really a fan either. Kinda why I stopped hunting them for a few years, got talked into it this year though.

Attaboy Mason! And Dad too. Only bad duck/goose is poorly prepared duck/goose imo. Even my wife, who hates “gamey” food loves it when I’ve made it for her. Lots of good preparations for it, but tough to beat a teriyaki marinade and stir fry for those of you who don’t like it.

Good luck duck hunters. I had something come up so I have to stay home with the 2 little ones today. My buddies said they want Mason in their boat with them so he’s up and ready to go hunt with the big boys today. He’s getting a first taste of the 230am wake up and get to the spot early on opener game.
