I have using IDO for several weeks but never created an account until now just to share this story. After not bow hunting for several years due to school and living 3 hours away from home I decided to make the commitment to hunt hard this year. After several weekends of passing on small bucks and does I was excited to get home and hunt hard this weekend. I got home Friday afternoon from college and went right to my stand. At dark I had a nice buck coming in but ran out of shooting light. Naturally I was very excited to hunt Saturday morning with the rut going on. I went to my best stand, put out a doe estrous trail, and called on and off for 5 hours. I did not see a single deer. I was unable to hunt Saturday night due to work but at the last minute Sunday morning I decided to head back to my best stand. I got to my stand before first light and realized I forgot my butt pad. I decided to just sit on my hand muff so I strapped in and went to sit down and my phone fell out of my pocket the 15 feet to the ground. So I unstrapped and crawled down the ladder to retrieve it. Thinking I was having a bad day I decided to just keep it natural. No deer scents or calling. About 20 minutes after shooting light I was reading an article on my phone when I looked up to see a deer stand at 75 yards walking to the south. I stood up and just like that he turned and started heading right towards me! I saw that he was a shooter so I grabbed my bow and quickly pulled back just as he stepped out on to the logging road where he stopped offering a perfect 20 yard shot. I let the arrow fly and heard him crash just a few seconds later!! From me first seeing him to letting the arrow fly was under a minute! It fills good to finally fill the bow tag!! Less then 2 weeks until opening gun season and you can bet that I will be right back in that same stand!
