Hook removal is interesting. I ended up with a treble hook in my middle finger. Spent 20 minutes trying to push it through and snip the barb so I could pull it back out. Didn’t feel good at all.

Finally had enough, grabbed my Leatherman pliers and just ripped it out. Didn’t hurt at all. That’s my new procedure for hooks embedded lol, just give a healthy tug and instant relief.

That’s the way to do it.

You have to treat a hook like taking off off Band-Aid.

I use my Leatherman, others use the fishing line trick. Either way just give it a good rip “On Three” -wink-

    Pro-tip:

Do it “On Two” when pulling it out from someone else, because the anticipation is the worst part and causes people to flinch.

Works on inanimate objects just as well lol

When you get a hook stuck in a rod bag, your shirt, the carpet, etc, just grab it with a pliers and give it a “pop”

Works way faster and with less damage versus trying to work it out slowly.

That’s how I did it…grabbed the pliers and gave it a quick yank. I tried the braid trick but all that did was hurt like hell.

Careful with the pliers. If the hook is in a tendon you can tear the tendon when ripping the hook out. That becomes a bigger issue.

I didn’t even think about that. This was mine:

Another thing I keep in every vehicle is a seatbelt cutter/window buster ziptied to every sun visor. That way both sides can reach one and they are easy to pull off the visor post. They make good cheap gifts too.

This thread prompted me to check my first aid kit, as I was getting the boat ready for open water here. Glad I did. The Orion Water Proof box was not waterproof….everything in the kit was soggy and moldy. Time to resupply! Dumped the box too.
