Looking at these grates to try and get a little more heat out of my fireplace. Reviews say they work good even without a blower which is what I might try because I don’t want to have to leave the screen doors open to accommodate the blower fan and tube. Any thoughts or opinions?

It might work without the blower but then if you don’t use the blower how does the heat from the tubes get into your home more than what the fire gives? Seems like without the blower that it serves very little purpose. Also, are these grates big enough to still get a good size fire/logs to burn. With the grates coming over the top will you be to constricted when add wood to the top of the fire?

I would like to see one burning before I went with this one. IMHO

PS: Have you looked into an enclosed fire place insert?

The science behind them is pretty simple. You light a fire and it warms the air inside the tubes. As the air gets hot it rises and leaves the tube and goes into the room, and cold air gets pulled in to the bottom of the tube to be heated. As the tubes get hotter the airflow inside the tubes gets faster and eventually you will be able to feel a slight airflow coming from the top tube and pushing the heat into the room.

Now with that said would I pay $350 for one? Probably not, as I have seen the effects heat can do to 1″ thick solid steel bars after one year of regular use. I wouldn’t want to see what it can do to some thinwall tubing after a few hot fires. It would be cheaper to place an electric heater in the room instead, if you had to keep replacing it.
