255. Lost our family land this year but a friend wanted to start deer hunting again and invited me out to his land, probably just to use me to gut his deer for him…
It’s fine since he’s got a big buck on cam, but I’m hoping someone else in the party takes it. I just like sitting in the woods at this point, I can take it or leave it when it comes to the meat.
259, in the bunyan here
How’s it been up there? We had some complications on the land we were hunting just south of the Bunyan 3-4 years ago, and are in 157 now.
Ill be chasing a Doe on NC
you have a permit for does out there???????

Yes he does. It’s called MOOLAHHHHH baby
Sorry had to
Lol that’s how I come home from bow hunting. And the lady says, “oh wow, another dead animal hanging in the garage”.
Mine wants lets dead critters in the house and more pictures of the kids. I say why I see the kids every day.

Mine is very understanding, besides she doesn’t understand why we need 6 deer a season. But 3 for me and 3 for the kid. Bonus if I get my Wisconsin one. The kids and I eat all the game in the world but she won’t unless she’s hammered. Wich is pretty much never.
Everyone in my family likes eating deer. She just thinks 3 deer and 5 fish on the living room walls is enough. Funny though her last 2 deer got euro mounted and they are hanging in the house and her first turkey last year got mounted.
I am not crazy about venison myself. A small corn fed antlerless deer is decent eating and my family will eat it every once in a while. I know plenty of people who don’t care for it too. Certainly an acquired taste.
I am done eating the more sizable rutted up bucks. Those go to the donation program, if I shoot one. Which is about once every 10 years.
i can eat venison 3-4 days a week.
make neck roast, the steaks jerky, hot dogs, bologna, SS and sausage……..if i get enough deer!!!!
going to my brothers in sconny helped big time last year!!!!!!
We just had tenderloin tacos and back strap steak from the kids deer. We came home cut his buck up from the other night and he went up and cooked it. Delicious.
We also eat lots of venison, we process and make everything right at home. That’s why we go for 6 deer a year.
I started doing full bone in shoulder roasts and they turn out delicious. Can even make it in to a stew if wanted.
My favorite is the neck roast though. As good as it gets

How you gonna catch a doe with a bad ankle?
You’ll probably throw out a knee also.
Area 157 a tad north of Grasston!
Lots of deer around this year. A quick drive at dusk last night produced 4-7 deer in the green fields. Lots of little bucks that will get wasted by various hunters this weekend.
We hunt my land out the back door with my family and a couple of friends.
I’m there to teach and watch em grow! Its not about killing a deer.

I’ll be taking my annual 2 week trip over to 181 to eat tag soup
277 here. Hunting the farm that’s been in the family for over 100yrs. Will be myself and 3 boys. The wife decided to not hunt this year but will be with to watch and hang out with the dog. Hopefully we can get at least 2 or 3 deer. We all like deer and don’t buy much beef. Also my son brought home some BBQ sticks from his girlfriends family that now everyone wants made if we get deer.
As far as mounts I have 2 shoulder mounts in the living room and 2 fish in the bedroom. My 17yr old has 2 turkey fans, 2 fish, 1 antler and 1 shoulder mount in his room. It’s like a display of death when you walk in there lol.
Family spot in area 241 northeast of Park Rapids.
The hunting’s fine, but it’s the hunting camp that matters most.
there was a nice burst of activity on camera last week when the front came through, but it’s settled down a bit again now.

Plump young does from farm country taste the best and have the best texture hands down. Any mature buck is almost completely ground up. I’d bet 90% of the people who have prepared venison for me at their place have overcooked it. It doesn’t take much time/heat for venison to be cooked, and is very easy to overdo it. Once it’s overdone it quickly loses it’s allure to me.
I grew up eating a ton of venison, and now only eat it once in a while as it’s not a staple of going out to “fill the freezer” like it was in my younger years where our party would easily harvest 30 deer a season. Our group has dwindled and now it’s primarily trophy bucks or and a handful of medium sized does that we shoot each year. What isn’t cut out and prepared on the spot gets turned into jerky, snack sticks, summer sausage, or ring bologna depending on whose it is and what they want.
