Who’s going and where will you be hunting?

I’m going with my Father in zone 225. Took all of next week off and plan to hunt 8 or 9 days of the 9 day season, weather permitting.

Might buy a 3B license so I can hunt 701 this weekend and then the end of the 3B season since apparently we are going to Disney World end of next week. Great timing for that.

I’ll hunt the entire 9 days in 264, extreme NW MN. Leaving tomorrow after work. Have the wheeler loaded and ready to go. waytogo I’ll sit sunrise to sunset for at least the first 4 to 5 days. One daytime pic of my target buck but a few daytime pics of a few others.

We wont be making it out this weekend. Oldest has to work, youngest doesnt have his firearms safety and I dont want to deal with all the hunters we ran into last year. Told the middle son we could go second weekend or the third up by Bemidji, but we havent seen a deer there in a couple years.

I will be in Wisconsin bow hunting. No rifle season for me. My brother wants me to help him shoot a deer but I think I’ll skip over the river. I shot 2 doe and a buck with the bow and the kid took that fork, so we are not hurting on meat

I used to love bow hunting along the river in Wisconsin during MN opener. Sounds like a war zone.

Finally feel halfway decent. Should be out in the metro zones with the bow!

I’ll be right on the river bottom to. It’ll be my first time. I bet the Wisconsin deer will wonder what’s happening on the other side

We would see deer swimming across to the Wisconsin side.

I’m headed to Wisconsin for archery tomorrow and Saturday. Looking like winds out of the SE Saturday morning, which throws my planned approach for a bit of a loop. I’ve scouted some good spots on public nearby, so that might be the ticket.

My dad will open his 60th Minnesota deer season with my 2 sons and I on our farm in 159 east of Hinckley.

It’s been a strange fall, the MASSIVE crop of acorns has the deer movement patterns way different than a normal fall.

I hope those maniacs over by Duxbury keep it down and don’t shoot all the little ones.

Our own land is in 342, and my Father In Law owns a seperate larger piece in 342 as well. I’m unsure if I will make it out or not. The last few years I’ve sat for a few hours on a few different days at most. I have no intentions of pulling the trigger unless it is going on the wall during the MN season.

My side of the family has land directly across the river in WI (Buffalo County). It’s a pretty similar scenario where I sit for a few hours on a few different days that season as well. We still have a traditional deer hunting camp with a dozen guys or so in a shack that I always run over and visit regardless if I go out opening morning or not.

I used to hunt nonstop both sides of the river, but with 2 kids and tons of work now there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

Good luck to everyone. Stay safe and enjoy your time in the woods.

No deer firearm hunting for me this year. I will wait for the Muzzleloader season. I will be heading up to hang out with several friends who will be hunting. The best part is I can have as much fun partying each evening, and not worry about having to get up early the next morning to sit out in the cold. I hope all those out freezing don’t shoot so much that it wakes me up early and make me get up and out of the warm cozy bed.

I do wish all of you the Best of Luck. Shoot straight and Often !!! Remember ” Aim small, Miss Small ” Be safe out there !!!

Not what you like to see two days before the season. Guess I’ll also have to bring the .17wsm or suppressed .223 smash smash

Hey Grouse are you going to put dummies or manicans in your stands this season? I remember saying at the end of last year you were seriously considering it to decoy the deer to another location.

I haven’t implemented Project Dummy yet, but IMO the idea is still sound. The core problem has been during bow season, the deer on our property are so good at checking tree stands for hunters that stand hunting has become almost totally ineffective. My idea was to hang clothing in stands because the deer then follow predictable “escape” routes to avoid these occupied stands and I could set up on these routes.

For the firearms season, I accepted years ago that we have to use the blinds and tower stands and stay out of sight. I don’t care how high your stand is, or how still you sit, in our area deer absolutely see and avoid orange.
