Finicky Fooler tweek that has worked well for me.

I used JB Weld to secure the rod holder on the FF, it is one less thing to put together out there and its nice that it stays put when you grab your rod when you have a fish on (annoying when it dangles on there) I understand that they designed it to be flat and pack small but for me the trade off has been worth it.

Never had a issue with that. Half the time it takes alot of pulling power to get that rod holder out. I feel like it would be bent or worse yet the plastic would crack if I left it in there. Or welded it in there. But that’s with all my stuff in my sled and me flying across the lake with sled behind wheeler. Never had it come out when I grabbed my rod.

No issues with he holder coming out. These have been great additions for Devils lake trips.

Never been a problem for me either.

What I do when I get a fish is lift up the entire Finicky Fooler which makes pulling the rod out smoothly because of the angle, then I set the hook.

I love mine and use them inside and outside of our permanent icehouse.

I like using them over rattle reels.

Finicky foolers are definitely the way to go. The insulated hole cover they have works really well as well.

Isn’t it just as easy to pull the rod out with the bail open? Even if it takes both hands? – unless you’re talking about using it with the hooksetter- not legal (yet) in MN anyhow…

If you’re using it with the hooksetter, then by all means – grab and reel!

I have 2 and won’t go back to tip ups…

I always feed a bit of line, look and see which way the fish is going and set. No hurry for the fooler or the tippies IMO, then again I’m getting old and #1 do not want to run & #2 do not want to fall.
Holder still comes out, could have added some duct tape or something to create more tension but I like the idea of it being fixed. Good ideas out there including buy a second, hmm…..

Oh, I don’t use the one that sets for you, like to keep it all legal (can’t brag if you cheat!)

I use bait feeders on mine. Works awesome. I was sick of the open spool and line jumping off the reel in the wind. The okuma ceymar work well and are cheap enough to have a couple.

Sounds like they may be legal very soon. Just saw a post on fb about it today.

    A quick search:

Minnesota DNR Says They Are Rewriting The Rule.
The DNR in the comments said that they agree that automatic hook setters are no worse than tip-ups, and that they are actually in the process of writing a permanent rule to allow the use. They hope that it will be in place for next year’s season.

Kinda like to set my own hook-but as far as the DNR is concerned wouldn’t a fish be more likely to be hooked deep and killed with a tip up?

Yep hence the change to allow a device like a jaw jacker.
