Finding too many dead deer

Ran up to my farm yesterday to check in on my dad. Since it was so beautiful out, I had to do some hiking for locating new dead elm trees and a bonus shed or two.

To my absolute shock, I was blown away on how many deer parts I found. I had commented on seeing a significant drop in the resident deer at our gun deer season. Well, now I see why. Everywhere I covered, found legs, vertebrae, skulls….nothing fresh. Very obvious the parts had been there for awhile.

Additionally no major trails used, no consistent bedding areas, very little to no shredded hair on what there is for trails…and didn’t see a deer all day.

I know our county had 10 reported cases of EHD. Hope that didn’t hit our place

Randy, sorry to hear about the deer situation. Not good.

Have you contacted the DNR? It might be helpful to know if other landowners had reported similar deaths and if anyone had gotten to a deer carcass in time to recover tissue for testing to determine if it was EHD or CWD or something else.

Sorry, though. A real hard deal to have this happen to your place.

Wow, sorry to hear Randy. After all your hard work and $$$ that’s a kick in the pants.
