Shore fished the MN with a couple first timer friends. Only had cut suckers as to increase our chances at good numbers with channels and just as we were packing up I got my first Flat. 27.8 lbs. heck of a fight, can’t imagine what one twice the size is like.

    Awesome catch!! woot

I’ve had better luck lately as well on cut sucker, small chunks too for the kitties. Caught my biggin about a month ago on a smaller chunk, after that switched to large and catch rate on both went way down. Downsized hooks and baits and back to catching nice fish. Weird how it goes. toast

Nhamm this was the exact same. It was a smaller chunk too because it was a really slow night so I started cutting smaller chunks. Then that happens. Crazy how fishing goes.

Nice one MF14! It seems like cut bait works better and better starting in August. Not saying that a flat can’t be caught earlier in the year of course.

I’m sending you a pm re photos.

I was already hooked with the channels. Been trying all year to get a flathead. Pretty jacked to get one. The Penn Warfare that I just got a few weeks ago stood up nicely (which it should) with it being the heaviest fish it’s landed. Would have been a crazy fight on my Okuma Avenger Baitrunner spinning set up.

Chickened out on the handling of it, which I’m still somewhat ashamed of. As calm as that fish seemed something just didn’t feel right sticking my hand in its mouth. Next time.

Double the grin on your face and there isn’t a slap that could remove it!

    Congrats.

You’ll be so proud you’ll even include the bridge in the picture and make it your Avatar ;)

Nice fish! Don’t sell your Okuma spinning reels short. My Okuma reels have put plenty of big flats and sturgeon in the boat.

I’ll bet, no bridge at that spot though!
