I had a one day trip to run up to one of my favorite areas after a disappointing (super windy) trip with my Dad to RMNP

Just got back from a trip there myself.
We went up a couple days and sat next to a meadow in the evening until an hour after dark.
Jug a wine and few beers sitting on lawn chairs watching the fights and listening to Elk bugling a hundred yards away in the dark sends shivers up my spine.
    What a great place !

Even with all the wind, they were bugling hard all day/night. Wind sucked. kept them all tight in the dark woods

Was there end of Sept. it’s been so warm there many of the elk were still up high. We were up at the Alpine Visitor Center and there was a small herd just below us. They had to be at 11,000 ft, we were at 11,800. Went down to Moraine Park and watched. Only a couple bulls showed up that evening. Going back through Estes Park there was a good size heard on the golf course and a couple bulls right in the street. We laughed and dubbed them “City Elk” grin

The day after we got back there was a news story about a woman attacked after she got to close to a bull right in town.
