My mom has a video from last week of a black bear grabbing a fawn and running off. I’ll try to post it. It was caught off the back yard camera

I seen my first farm last week.
Unfortunately it had been hit by a vehicle.

Unfortunately it had been hit by a vehicle.

I had a friend hit a doe 2-3 weeks ago. 2 fawns came out of it on impact.

Last week I saw a doe that had recently been hit. It also had 2 fawns come out of it.

I’ve yet to see my first fawn that’s alive this year. But every day as I drive past deer, I’m watching closely for them!

It seems like the Fawns are a little later than normal this year. That often happens when its a rough winter. My guess is there will be far fewer Twins born this spring than normal as well.

SE MN the winter wasn’t that rough but probably different in the Northern half.

But our spring was cold and crappy. Deer can “somewhat” prolong the birth dates until the weather warms giving them a better survival rate. So yes, it is late but not unusual. I have not seen any twins yet either.

Get some human hair from woman’s hair salon put it in old nylon stockings and hang it around your patch. Heard that works.

Irish Spring bar soap too. They won’t go near it.

But, that sweet corn makes for mighty fine tasting back straps come this fall!

Black bears do indeed take a good number of very young fawns in late May and June.

We saw a big boar black bear East of Rush City and about a half-mile off the St. Croix River. He was out at about 9AM working a grassy area near a small woodlot … and no more than 50 yards from the road. There was a doe watching him from across the road.

We came up the cross street and when we stopped and got out of our truck to glass him, he started to trot along the woodlot. He was not carrying anything … so maybe we got there in time.

That bear was large and actually rather gorgeous …

I agree the fawns seem a week or two later than the past couple of springs.

This little guy just came out all by himself and laid in the sun for a while.

After commenting to a coworker who had half of her garden eaten by deer last year that I haven’t seen any in my yard in years, a big doe started passing through multiple times a day. I just knew she had a fawn stashed behind my shed or in the next door neighbors tree line along the lake. Sure enough the little one wobbled through the yard the night before and again last night. Heading toward my garden both times. Hopefully, mom takes it to a more suitable habitat when it’s more able to keep up with her.

That’s right. Best eating deer there is, corn fed and young!

Perhaps it’s just me but the few trips I’ve taken up north thus far I’ve seen an extraordinary amount of deer, and that’s not counting the large amount dead.

Several does hide their fawns by ours and neighboring cabins up north. I think they figured out its a little safer from the wolves, bears and coyotes.
