Hi all well this weekend for some reason I finally got some bass on rippin raps a size 5 for 2 years could not get one to bite on it until this weekend. The original rattlin rap always worked good. What are your favorites for large or smallmouth bass? For me I have learned to down size sizes 8 or 9 etc. I like the countdowns and husky jerks in size 8 or 10. Later in the year I like jointed shad raps favorite color is glass white or red craw.

Largemouth – Husky Jerk size 13 in Tennessee Shad. Long before Pointers, Visions, Reranges, Cutters, etc., this was catching bass, a lot of bass. Cons are that it does not have a weight transfer system and the hooks are “ok”. Pros are that it absolutely catches fish, is affordable, and comes with “ok” hooks. I say “ok” hooks because they decent, but definitely not top shelf. So that’s a pro and a con. Good enough to get by but not good enough if money is on the line.

Smallmouth – X-Rap in Pink. Angry smallmouth. Enough said.

What body of water? I have favorites for many different lakes and rivers. Ranges from the ole fat raps, rattle raps, husky,….often wish fish didn’t have such a wide variation in food sources

Probably not what you’re looking for, but my favorite Bass lure from Rapala is the skitter prop!

The DT Series is about the only Rapala lure I will use. They pair with the Strike King XD series extremely well to cover all depths and has a different enough wobble that enables you to catch fish in all types of conditions with those two series of cranks.

Yes! I don’t understand why the skitter PROP (not pop) is so hard to find in stores. Only place I’ve seen it on shelves in the last couple years is Cabelas.

    I also love X-raps.

Whatever one that they won’t eat…

In all seriousness, I don’t fish bass that often. When I do, it seems x-raps trigger quite a few bites. It seems like they often hit anything that comes across their face in the rip rap on Pool 4 in the summer though if we’re looking for walleyes.

I like the skitter pops, without the prop. I also like to replace the rear hook with one a size larger.

For me it is hard to beat a fat rap in size 7. It’s one lure I wish they would bring back. I have surprisingly caught some of my biggest pike on it also. Fortunately I can still purchase them on E Bay. They are quite expensive thou.
