Favorite MTV Unplugged?

    What’s everybody’s favorite Unplugged session?

For me, it’s Alice in Chains.
They hadn’t performed together in years and was their last notable performance.
Layne shows up and sings at what is essentially his own funeral.
Story goes that he was high when they performed but he absolutely pulled himself together.

I could also probably be talked into one of the other Grunge sessions.

Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged in New York album is hands down my all time favorite. It wasn’t often I would buy a whole album, and even more rare that I love every song from the album! bow

Alice in Chains and Nirvana are two of my all time favorite bands. I like Alice in Chains Unplugged much better.

Nirvana for me. There was a time I listened to it and tried to play it on guitar. But they both are great.

Nutshell was the first song that came to mind when I read the title peace

The album cover will be forever stuck in my head. I was 11 or 12 when it came out and my older brother listened to it a ton …So I had to as well mrgreen

So many more too, Megadeth, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Jane’s Addiction, the Crowes, Metallica, G’n’R, Sound Garden, Ministry and a hundred more

I’m blasting the Nirvana album now on the way to the lake. The rawness of kurts voice with guitar does it for me.

If you have Spotify, just type in MTV unplugged and there’s a unplugged grunge Playlist. Alice in chains, pear jam, Nirvana, stone temple pilots. Great one for a road trip or sitting in the ice house.

    What’s MTV?

That’s funny…I can’t remember the last time I tuned into MTV! That said, I always loved the unplugged acts. My favorite tho isn’t from MTV…I love “Armegeddon it acoustic” by Def Leppard. You can search that title and it’s the band playing that song (my favorite of theirs). They are totally rocking 4 acoustic guitars in England at a club back in 1995. That’s my favorite by a long shot.

Personally – O likes the Stevie Ray Vaughn unplugged session the best. What a talent!

Many great unplugged performances, but Nirvana was the best.

MTV wouldn’t allow what I like anywhere near their audience.
We just watched what’s probably the greatest valentines day show ever, the Gaither Vocal Band – Love Songs. This show is now a valentines day tradition with us. Actually I’ve been following Reggie & Lady Love for several years and this past Christmas the Gaither Vocal Band performed a Christmas show at Carnegie Hall which was very cool to get to see Reggie (the blond headed guy) singing at Carnegie Hall.

    I also like Skillet unplugged.

MTV might air Starset which is very cool unplugged or live.

Would the Big Joe Polka Show sound the same unplugged?

Alice In Chains for me too. On a different note Crossroads on CMT have put together some good acts too. ZZ Top and Brooks & Dunn and John Myer & Keith Urban were a couple of my favorites.

Clapton was brilliant and playing only acoustic, the talent shines even brighter.

Nirvana was also fantastic and their performance was, IMO, one of the last of those generational TV moments where we all were watching the same thing at the same time and then talking about it the next day. I’m sure I’m not the only one who had a sense of impending doom when it came to Kurt Cobain. By the time Nirvana took the stage for Unplugged, it was well known he had both substance and mental health issues.

    What’s MTV?

According to their commercials they are the home of drag. Catch every season of Rupauls drag race. Seen the commercial a hundred damn times this weekend watching Bar Rescue.

Nirvana gets all the cred, but Alice in Chains was easily my favorite. Their songs were so melodic to begin with and once unplugged they were awesome.
