With open water season getting closer its got me thinking on what new methods I should try to learn for Bass exclusively. Right now I am a big fan of punch fishing thick pads/other cover and also throwing frogs. What are some of your favorite tactics for Bass??

I haven’t fished them in a LONG time, it’s probably been 10 years, but I would have to say that fishing docks with a texas rigged worm was my favorite.

Wacky worm weightless May and June shallow, docks. Pig and jig or texas rigged worm deep weedline after June. August deep weighted wacky, finesse jig and worm.

It’s all about pressure, learn how to skip under docks where most fishermen don’t go… and you’ll find some good ones

When I began to learn how and when bass moved deeper and suspended chasing young of the year gills, crappies,… my mid and late summer catch rates sky rocketed. Stull trying to figure out those pig females in late summer. But i dont complain about 3 and 4 pounders smashing small cranks

Spinner baits along deep weed edges for the biggest largemouths, although sometimes right in the slop too with weedless spinner bait.

Plastic craw dragged on bottom over rocks and boulders for the big smallies.

Wacky worm and Square bill account for close to 70 percent of the bass I catch each year.

Lots of good suggestions here, I like plastics or spinners along docks, boat lifts, shoreline, etc. I think it really makes you a much better caster. You’ll have times where you cast more of a line drive to keep it low but get it under a dock. Other times I’ve casted softly to land on a dock and then slowly pulled it to let it plop in the water. I’ve read and also seen from experience that bass are pretty reactionary and if they all of a sudden have something show up they’ll react and go after it.

I think it’s a fun way to fish. Be prepared to lose some lures and hooks/plastics, but sometimes a pinpoint cast in the small gap between a boat lift and dock can be right where you want it.

Favorite way? Topwater poppers, jerks, buzz baits. What’s more exciting than a topwater explosion? It may not always be the most effective method of hooking up or even enticing a slow bite, but it is the most exciting.

I actually got pretty decent at this a couple summers ago but noticed the same docks we not holding fish as well once july hit. Maybe its because i usually fished the same few strings and probably needed more depth. Always fun with a 1/2 jig shock

Deep bass are for sure the biggest area I need to work on. Especially crank baits and where they would relate to structure and just be confident in it.

Favorite? Topwater, ideally out a ways from cover so I can use a prop bait, popper, spook, etc. They’ll catch fish in surprisingly deep water (if it’s clear), too.

    Lipless cranks in deep.
    Square Bills on the rocks.
But nothing beats the feel of a strike on the jerk bait. Every pause is a potential

I’ve retired from bassing, but I want to reuse my Whopper Plopper and chatterbaits on grass flats.

Since we’re talking favorites, I would have to say my favorite way is sitting on the cabin dock at Namakan and watching an old Cane Pole loaded with a plain hook and leech. By far my favorite!

I got addicted to dropshotting about 5 years ago and now its hard for me not to have 3 or 4 dropshot rods on the boat deck.

I also love pitching jig-n-pigs into heavy cover.

I have been playing with jerk baits more and it can be fun. Still trying to figure it out. My brother and I still cannot resist a top water frog bite. the anticipation is awesome and the strikes are fun. Highs and lows to all, but at least you’re fishing.

I love frogging in weed patches and using a popper around the outside of the weed patches. Also have a lot of luck casting the poppers under low hanging trees when they’re casting shadows. Square bills on a deeper weed line have also been very affective for me but top water is definitely my favorite.

Drop Shot 30′ – 50′ or slowing rolling spinner baits at 20′ weed lines. Lets go!

I find it challenging to fish them with lines other than anchor rope. I have to work around big cover instead of directly in it. Actually it feels like cheating to use those kind of lines. I’m not complaining and I know Im in the minority.

I don’t fish for bass. Officially.

If I did, it would be frogs in the pads or maybe buzzbaits near emergent weeds.

    But I don’t, so there’s that.

I really need to learn how to drop shot. I know people love it and i have never really fished with anyone that uses it.

Jerkbaits are my favorite for smallies hands down!
