Favorite/Least Favorite thing of your preferred line

I’d like to think I’m a pretty open minded guy. I use strictly braid on all my rigs. I love the sensitivity of it either pitching jigs or casting cranks. I don’t like how it gets frayed when fishing around rocks or other snags without tying on a leader. To me, the pros of using braid outweigh the cons so I’ve never really given mono much of a chance the last few years.

I want to get opinions because I’m sure there’s an advantage I’m missing in some applications. What are your favorite/least favorite things of braid or mono/flouro?

Disclaimer I almost exclusively fish the river so visibility is not a concern.

Overall I prefer braid for many of the reasons you listed. The one dynamic that is a pro/con is that with no stretch it is great for hook sets (especially long ones) but the lack of stretch can also make it a liability in terms of keeping fish buttoned the nearer you get the fish to the boat (especially trebles). But even single hooks when fighting a strong fish in the current – without stretch, the minute they get any slack it can be one head shake and gone…

I love mono for the stretch, hate it for the hooksets. Same coin, different sides.

I’ve taken to using braid probably 80% of the time, with a mono or flouro leader most often. I still use straight mono for some rigging, some trolling, and some river fishing.

Braid makes water freezing beads easily in icefishing conditions.

I have used Braid on all my rods for years. Now I have started using Sufix Advance Mono on a couple of rods and love it. I also use it for leaders with Braid and last winter on my Inline reels for Ice fishing. Very low stretch, good knot strength and very sensitive.

I use braid, superline, and mono, because they all have their advantages for certain baits, presentations, and locations. Overall, I think I like mono the most because of the stretch factor, and I personally think the positive aspect of the stretch (keeping fish hooked) outweighs the negative. During fishing league, my partner likes to use braid and he would always loose at least a couple of fish before we got them in the boat, whereas I lost only a couple for the whole season when using mono. The least favorite thing about mono is the fact that it’s far easier to get bit off by a pike.

I personally think the stretch factor is really underappreciated. I know Al Lindner insists on using mono when using jigging raps because the stretch will allow you to land way more fish, and I totally agree.

    ^^^^ X2

I’m going back to more braid on my jigging rods, can’t say I don’t appreciate the enhanced sensitivity.

Loosing alot on hooksets tho, might have to rear back on the power Hammer sets.

Braid for me. Need to match the rod to the line. Softer rods for braid. Stiffer rods for mono.

    Spider wire braid.
It’s the first braid I ever used and hasn’t let me down. It gives me confidence.I don’t have to worry about getting a nick in the line causing a weak spot.

I use suffix 832 braid for most applications except some vertical jigging and pitching situations. Love the durability and sensitivity but because it is so limp having no memory it tends to line wrap on the tip of my fast action rods and can develop wind knots. Tip wrap on a G Loomis While snagged in current is not fun. Haven’t broken one yet but it is bound to happen.
