Faulty Rapala split rings

I throw Rapala DT-10’s quite a bit late Summer into Fall. Ive been lucky enough to catch a few decent-sized fish lately. Have some slow days, too, of course. Ive had 4 DT-10 treble hooks fall off due to split rings getting loose. Anyone else have similar issues? My finger nails are getting beat up from scavenging split rings off some other less used lures. They are my favorite brand, but looking less durable lately. Thanks, Sam

Get a box of replacement split rings and quite scavenging, also get a split ring pliers while you are at it.

Rapalas have had their fair share of quality issues on these forums as of late.

I personally haven’t fished all that much this summer, but when I have the couple times my shadraps have broken on just a few snakes. Disappointing.

I’ve broken my fair share of rapalas. I can’t say the split rings have been an issue. More bent hooks and lips from pulling on snags than anything. Are you using a net? Many times the fish flopping in the net can bend things.

To be fair I’ve seen issues on all of them. For me, the bills on rapalas seem to break easily. On flicker shads I have a lot of trebles break.

I attribute most of it to me being hard on baits. However, there will always be quality issues with mass produced products.

Rapala seems very good about dealing with issues so call them. I’ll bet they’ll make it right.

I’ve gone with strike king because I’ve always had problems with the components on Rapala cranks. It’s a shame because they stack up against the strike king cranks quite well. But I’ve never had a split ring break on a SK like I have on a DT.

My 2 cents again, braid , stiffer graphite rods, no stretch, can lead to broken lures,

I break hooks on my Rapalas quite a bit but haven’t had any issues with the split rings. Love the DT series though

While I don’t disagree with your theory, I’ve been running braid on my cranking set ups for around 7 years and have never broken any crank other than a Rapala. I wish it wasn’t true because I do like them but they just aren’t lasting like other brands.

Broke the plastic dive plate of a dt lure this morning. Just have it a small slap against the water to relieve a piece of grass. And pop, came right off.
