well guys,,,,,I hate to disappoint most of you as some newspaper feller said I was an idjit the other day.
I guess the wisdom I have tried to pass onto you over the last five?? six?? years amounts to nothing and I am just a guy who grew up tossing seed onto the ground and covering it up and it didnt take much brains to do that.

all of the skills I have learned over the years above being a mechanic has no value,ie,a manager, planner, organizer, animal husbandry, vet, land stewardship, finance officer, employer, electrician, carpenter, welder, plumber, and thats just a sample of the things I do.
sigh, since when does having a butt load of money make you any smarter than me???

,,,,if I aint so smart, how did we and thousands of folks like me over the years feed an entire world?????
how did we build a country based on taking pride in what we do,foreseeing the future and building on the dreams that came from that???
was all of my hard work,a broken back when I was thirteen, two broken vertebrae in my neck when I was seventeen, six broken ribs for not???
if I could be paid a dollar for every blister on my hands, would I be a gozillionaire??
if I could be paid a cent for every drop of sweat that ran down my back could I buy the world??
if I could be paid for every tear that fell over a failed crop,a stillborn calf, lamb, pig, that could of fed the hungry at butcher time, would I be,,,even richer??

you see,a Farmer is many things and the clock never stops for us,am I a farmer now?? no,not in the sense of owning land and working it everyday.
But,,I am a farmer at heart, farm bred, farm born, you can take the boy off of the farm, but you will NEVER EVER!!! take the farm out of the boy!!

I guess I will continue to be a farmtard the rest of my days and revel in it and I pity anyone who votes for a roosterfishing richard cranium that thinks I am an idjit.

okay,Iowaboy1 is done ranting now as much as I would like to continue.

I’m definitely not a Bloomberg supporter who you are talking about but we see enough of that crap on tv for a year straight around election time. And yes a lot of people work hard to make a living. Why bring that crap on here smash

Looked at that lake you suggested. Very interesting. Kind of like to treat it like the upper St.croix river.

Seems like the Democratic Party has transitioned from a focus on farmers and laborers to immigration and minorities. Not a judgment, just an observation. If you think about it, the number of farmers in the US has drastically decreased in the last 50 years, so probably makes sense if they want to win elections.

Due to big AG mainly. I suspect both parties are responsible for this for various reasons, mainly greed. Hiring illegals for labor to cut costs. Might be only a minor reason for this decline but I’ve been interested in various dietary research and one thing that comes up quite often is the carbon footprint of beef. When they are raised on industrial farms and fed industrial grains. It has little benefit to the rural economies and has a massive carbon footprint. Not to mention the negative effects on health because of where this industrial food goes.

Personally I’d like to see some governmental incentives for more traditional farming practices for smaller local operations even if the end product is more expensive. It would employ more local laborers, reduce or even create a negative carbon footprint, and benefit public health.

I just emailed the American farmer hater and invited him to have intercourse with himself and that is putting it mildly.
seeing as how he has no clue as how to this country works or other things for that matter I am sure he is sorely confused as to what I meant.

if he is smart enough to figure out how to read an email with a return address without putting it in his spam folder or having an aid reply to it,I am sure he will be digging out the meaning of what I said by hiring attorneys to digest it,apply their new found wisdom and sue me to no end.

well,if he knows anything about farming he will soon realize that you cannot get blood out of a turnip, nor can you make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
oh,I also sent him a link to this thread !!

I am so hoping he will contact me personally!!!
    let the games begin!!!

This is a little fact in my world, back in 82 I was a patrolman for a township here in Wis ”grader man” there were 17 farms that milked cows and supported families. Today there are none. Sad!

It’s problem with all politicians nowadays. I think they’re all so removed from what built the country. But farming in general has become as corporate as anything else these days. My family’s farm got squeezed out by Imminent Domain laws when they wanted to expand the roads to 4 lanes. Then they took part of it so they could sell it to a Costco. Eventually they gave up and just started leasing the land to a Burger King and a BP gas station because they couldn’t survive anymore on what they were making.

Big AG has lobbyists paying money to both sides to push out local farmers. It’s the same in everything now. Unfortunately farmers are a small business and in today’s America, small businesses of any type are a dying breed. It sucks, but I Bigill is right in that it’s going to be consumers looking for healthy alternatives to corporate farming. I know when we do go to the grocery store we try to buy organic. We try to buy as much as we can from farmers locally.

The only thing non-political are the funeral homes. They accept all parties.

My wife grew up on a dairy farm and it is still going strong today. They are small in today’s world (milking 44) and don’t plan to change anything. They also manage around 400 acres of tilled land to help balance cost and feed their animals. All I can say is it is a very under appreciated trade… those boys work harder than anyone I know for a lot less money in the pocket than many of us see.

I don’t get into the politics of it all. My only opinion is that my kids, wife and I are very lucky to be part of it. My girls get to learn and see things that not many kids do today. If they can learn and carry half of the work ethic that my in laws have they will be a step ahead of many.

That’s all I got. Iowaboy. If your ever in the area (pool 2) let me know and I will have an open seat for ya. busch lights are on me. Haha.

I think job applications should include the estimated number of rocks (in trailer loads) you have picked smile

My career wasn’t as long as many on here I’m sure, but I’d estimate I’ve loaded at least 200 rock trailers myself through my younger years. It’s not a huge amount but I was proud of everyone as a young boy growing up. It helped me buy my first boat when I was 13yrs old!

I’m sure some of you that have farmed your whole life would have some crazy high numbers??

Don Meier, ok that was a political statement.

BUT, the balance of the rest of it was a banter on how some Americans that are more well off look down on back labor working sweat soaked Americans that provide essential products and services within our country and exported for the world are perceived.
